This pendant lamp, model "Istappen" (The Icicle), is an example of Scandinavian mid-century design. The lamp was designed by Swedish Ateljé Engberg in the 1960s/70s. A brass-plated metal top holds a heavy, solid glass piece designed to resemble a natural icicle.
When the lamp is lit, the glass acts as a light guide. The light source, hidden in the top, sends rays down through the textured glass, highlighting the embedded bubbles and providing an atmospheric, sparkling light.
